Osteopathy is a form of manual medicine, which recognises the important link between the structure of the body and the way it functions and its inert ability to heal itself. Osteopathy focuses on how the skeleton, joints, muscles, nerves, circulation, connective tissue and internal organs function as a holistic unit.

Osteopathy was first developed in America in the 1870′s by a medical doctor, Dr. Andrew Taylor Still, it has now developed to the point where it has become widely recognised throughout the world as one of the most scientifically validated & effective complementary therapies.

The main aim of Osteopathic treatment is to restore normal function to the whole body, so you can benefit from Osteopathic treatment for any ailment you may be experiencing. Treatment is not a ‘cure’ or a quick-fix. Treatment assists your body to achieve its optimum health so it will be better able to deal with the problems it is experiencing.

Because of its holistic approach, osteopathic treatment is suitable for people at all ages and stages of life, from the very young right through to the elderly too. Osteopathic treatment can also assist in preparing the body for surgery and in the rehabilitative stages after one is discharged from hospital.

Pilates is a full mind-body exercise developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century using both spring based equipment and mat exercises.  But Pilates is about more than just exercise.  Pilates is a highly adaptable form of movement therapy that can be tailored to each individual and their own needs or goals.

Clinical Pilates is based on the original Pilates method developed by Joseph Pilates.  It is a form of exercise that focuses on correct posture, core stability, balanced muscle development, mind-body awareness, strength, flexibility and breathing. Pilates can be performed on a mat or reformer and may use a variety of equipment such as balls and resistance bands to change the exercise intensity.

Clinical Pilates or Physio Pilates is taught by qualified physiotherapists who have undergone training on the human body and who specialize in injury management and prevention.  They will tailor the exercises to your specific needs, monitoring your technique, provide hands-on cuing, and modify or progress your exercises as appropriate.  As the treatment program is specific to you, it is appropriate for all ages and can be as easy or as challenging as needed to achieve your therapy goals.
